How Can Virtual Interpreting Help to Overcome Language Barriers?
SLI Multilingualism Conference 2017
University of Freiburg. 16 – 18 March 2017
In local authorities language barriers hamper communication and lead to a loss of efficiency. Nevertheless, migrants with insufficient language skills are increasingly housed in rural areas where there is little experience of the target group. Only a few qualified language mediators are available. Rhineland-Palatinate’s Development Agency commissioned the testing of a Virtual Interpretation Pool (VIP) in 2015. The results of this project were presented at the International SLI Multilingualism Conference 2017 (Strand ‚Multilingualism in Society, Politics and Education‘).
